Millions of people everyday decide it is time to diet. Whether it is due to health reasons or just because they want to look better, they decide that it is time to make the lifestyle changes necessary to diet successfully. You may be able to lose weight without making lifestyle however it will be impossible to sustain it.

Many people are hesitant to start dieting for weight loss because they believe that dieting for a healthy life will make them hungry all of the time. There are ways that you can feel less hungry and still diet. One way is to increase your fiber intake throughout the day. When your fiber intake is increased, it can assist your body in feeling full. There are many foods that are high in fiber, such as beans, pears, whole grains and apples. By using the fruit as a snack throughout the day, you are increasing your fiber and satisfying the snack cravings associated with dieting. It is recommended that you take the necessary precautions against the side affects that eating too much fiber can cause.

Water is a very important part of life. It is even more important when you are dieting. Drinking plenty of water not only makes you feel less hungry, it also regulates your metabolism, it keeps you hydrated, and it gives you the nutrients that your body needs to stay healthy. Water also helps to flush out the toxins from your body that can slow down the weight loss process. There seems to be endless benefits to drinking water when youre dieting for weight loss.

In todays world, everything is big, cars, clothes, and food portions. Fast food places push their super sized menu items, and this contributes to the three quarters of the world being overweight to some degree. In restaurants around the country, it is not a complete meal unless you have at least three courses, and then dessert. In some instances, the portions are huge.

When you learn how to control the portions that you eat, you will be able to control what you consume. This will lead to weight loss.

The type of foods that you eat will also determine if you will lose weight. If you eat a lot of food that is high in fat, carbohydrates, and calories you are less likely to lose the weight that you want, and you could be opening the door for serious health issues. Making healthy menu choices will ensure that you will loose weight and stay healthy.

Incorporating an exercise routine as one of your lifestyle changes can further assist you in your weight loss goals. It does not have to be anything strenuous; a simple evening walk will help to speed up your metabolism. If you have children, involve them in the evening walk to instill good habits early.

Dieting for a healthy life by losing weight does not mean that you have to give up all the things in life that you love. It simply means that by modifying and taking things in moderation will assist you far better than the path that you may be currently on. The health implications of loosing the weight are well worth the required effort and should not be taken lightly no matter how excited you are about your new body that is hiding inside your old one.

January 30th, 2009 No comments

By: John Ugoshowa
Everyone wants to lose weight these days it seems, however not everyone seems to understand that a lot of the time when you lose weight, you are mostly losing muscle mass and not body fat, as you would want to. As well, it is important to understand that there are exercise methods available that can help you to attain fat loss and muscle gain, with the best of all being that of weight training.

Why use Weight Training for Fat Loss and Muscle Gain?

There are actually many different reasons as to why you would use weight training to attain fat loss and muscle gain; for one, if you are looking to lose fat or just change your body in general, then one of the most important things that you can do is lift weights. After all, there really is no other type of activity in the world that will help you to attain fat loss and muscle gain so efficiently and so quickly.

There are many great benefits that you will receive from weight training even besides that of fat loss and muscle gain, and this includes that of: helping to raise your metabolism, as muscle burns more calories than fat, so thus the more muscle that you have, the more calories you will burn all day long; strengthen bones, which is especially important for women; make you stronger and increase muscular endurance; help you to avoid injuries; increase your confidence and self-esteem overall; and even help to improve your coordination and balance.

Getting Started

Getting started can often be the hardest part in regards to an activity such as weight training, and this is basically because no one really ever knows where to begin. However, you should know that it most certainly does not have to be this hard. Basically, if you are going to be setting up your own program, then you will need to know at least some of the most basic strength training principles.

After all, remember that it is these principles that will teach you how to make sure that you are using enough weight, and that you will be able to properly determine how many sets and reps you should be doing.

If you are still unsure and/or uneasy, then there is always the option of hiring a personal trainer to help you out in this situation.

How to Choose the Best Carb Foods to Help You Lose Weight

January 30th, 2009 No comments

By: Joseph Cole
Now, more than ever, it is important to educate ourselves on the fundamentals to help us choose the best carb foods for weight loss. Every day we are surrounded with advertisements tooting so called healthy foods, often fueled by the latest fad diet.

Carbohydrates are often categorized as simple carbs and complex carbs. If your diet is high in the former this can result in a cycle of short bursts of energy followed by sugar crashes which is when you suffer from cravings, mood swings and that lethargic feeling. Simple carbs include sucrose (table sugar), glucose, fructose (fruit sugar), and lactose (dairy sugar) and are not the best carb foods, especially for weight loss.

Complex carbs, however, are digested more slowly than simple carbs are thereby releasing energy much more steadily. Examples of complex carbs include bread, pasta, rice and vegetables. While it may be necessary to reduce your overall carbohydrate intake, having less simple carbs is much more important, because of their effect on your energy levels.

However, fibrous carbs such as green vegetables are one of the best carb foods you can eat for several reasons and you should endeavor to eat lots of these carbs. They are very low in calories, and in some cases even contain negative calories, which means that they contain so few calories that your body actually uses more calories to digest and process these foods.

When you choose the best carb foods to help you drop the fat, you should also ask yourself whether the food is natural or highly processed/refined. Simple carbs such as fructose which is what is in fruits, or complex carbs such as potatoes and fibrous vegetables are examples of the former. Sucrose, your average table sugar, and other refined sugars such as glucose and dextrose, as well as highly processed starchy carbs such as white bread and white rice, would come under the latter category.

Refined carbs are a terrible choice of food, and have little or no benefit to your body. Not only do these foods have many of the healthy nutrients sucked out of them, they are digested and processed by your body very quickly, like simple sugars are, which explains why you feel tired and lethargic after a typical Western lunch, especially when its washed down with a high-sugar beverage.

You can also refer to the GI (glycemic index) values for another tool to help you choose the best carbs to help you lose weight and have more energy throughout the day. The glycemic index shows the impact foods have on your blood sugar. If the GI value is low, such as with lentils, it will not have a great effect on your blood sugar and you will have a relatively steady release of energy.

High GI foods on the other hand, such as white rice, unless eaten with a low GI food to balance the overall GI value of the food, cause your energy levels to shoot up and then shortly after drop right down. Not only does this sugar crash affect your mental performance and focus, as well as cause hunger and cravings, but the release of insulin which happens as a result sets your body up for fat storing, and limits its fat burning capacity.

It is also important to remember that refined carbs and sugars especially are very bad for your health, unless there is a need for them, which may be the case with athletes. On top of this, the GI values are very high, and we already have too much in our diet. Whats more, when you add unhealthy fats to the equation, this can result in immediate fat gain. Fried foods, pastries and ice cream are examples of such foods.

What you need to keep in mind is that the best carb foods have little or no refined sugar and very little fat content. I would strongly recommend you keep away from foods high in refined sugar, and more so if combined with unhealthy fats. The shocking thing is that many fat-free and low fat foods are packed with sugar, which grossly misleads the general public. Also stay away from high-sugar beverages such as sodas, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks as much as possible.

Find a Weight Loss Program That Works For You

January 29th, 2009 No comments

By: Philip Nicosia
Millions of people struggle with weight issues every yearand despite claims that a wonder diet can work for everybody, the fact is that each of those individuals have a medical history, a personality, or a lifestyle issue that affects whether or not that weight control technique will help them shed those pounds.

But while nothing works for everybody, there is something that will work for youand the challenge is to find it, identify it, and stick to it.

For some people, appetite control is extremely difficult. Some weight loss programs try to tackle that problem by delving into the psychological issues behind food (these are the total lifestyle body makeovers, whose techniques include keeping a food journal and coming to terms with ones body image). Others address the problem through metabolism, introducing or removing certain foods in ones diet that are said to either trigger appetite. Still others, like diet pills, act as appetite suppressants. Other programs rely on nutritional substitutes, like heavy shakes that make one feel full and provide adequate vitamins and minerals, while reducing calories.

For others, its not appetite thats problematic, its the kind of food they eat. Certain diet programs give very strict diet regimens that promote weight loss, because of the way the body digests the food. Some are short-term, meant to shed pounds over a limited period of time; others are long-term lifestyle changes. The success of these diet programs depend largely on the persons weight loss goals and level of commitment. Needless to say, if you just want to drop a dress size for your wedding, you may not be ready to go into something long-term. But if you have health problems, and need to control cholesterol levels, then a short-term solution would not be very effective.

Other weight loss programs are closely tied with exercise routines. Of course, not all exercise regimens will appeal to an individual; some would find yoga interesting, while others would prefer something like belly dancing. The idea is that one picks what is most interesting to themthe more fun and enjoyment they derive from a routine, the more likely they will stick to it.

The mistake that many people make is that they dont consider their own lifestyle or personality when they try a diet or exercise regimen; they go with what everyone else is doing, or jump on the weight loss bandwagon on the premise that it worked for so-and-so. While its okay to experiment with different regimens (wouldnt hurt to try anything once), ultimately it is a search to find what is personally appealing.

Another secret to maintaining a diet or exercise regimen is to have very clear and realistic goals. Be thin is too general to be meaningful; pinpoint a number, and a date: Lose 15 pounds by September. And to avoid discouragement, that goal must be humanly achievable and should never compromise with ones health. If a diet makes one dizzy, or radically affects ones ability to be fully alert and functional, then stop immediately.

Luckily there is a wide variety of weight loss regimens. Theres bound to be one that will help one meet ones goals and match ones lifestyle.

Considering A Fat Farm For Weight Loss

January 29th, 2009 No comments

By: John Ugoshowa
If you are considering going to a fat farm for weight loss, you need to be aware of the pros and cons of attending such a place and what that can do for your psychological makeup. There are a lot of variables involved in going to a place like that which can affect your overall sense of self and can turn your mind against you. You never know what you will end up believing about weight loss if you intend to attend a fat farm for weight loss. Be careful as to monitor yourself very carefully and to take the positives out of the program while paying mind to what bothers you. Each program can be different, so ensure that you are taking something that works with your situation.

Before you attend any facility to check out your weight loss options, you need to be sure that the fat farm for weight loss you intend to attend has the right credentials. Do not pick up on a place that lacks the proper health codes or the proper credentials as they will be running as profit mills with no interest in making you healthier. Instead, get a business report on the place and check out the place from all angles so that you can be assured you are in the right spot. Many people give the benefit of the doubt to places charged with their care, but this can lead to problems down the road and an unrealistic point of view supported by feeling and not evidence.

Considerations

A lot of people are calling a fat farm for weight loss a health spa, now. With the age of political correctness upon us, it is reasonable to assume that using the term fat farm represents an out-of-date point of view. With that, it is likely that anyone supporting such a point of view (as to call a weight loss facility a fat farm) may be less than reputable on a grander scale. Always look into the facts, but do not be afraid to be a little presumptuous with your finances and take care as to not engage yourself into any facility that you will not be wholly comfortable in. Weight loss relies on you and your state of mind the most, so without comfort you will be wasting your time.

When you attend a fat farm for weight loss or a health spa for the first time, ask a lot of questions. Do not allow yourself to be forced into corners with your health and always check and verify the spas claims for health. Check the doctors credentials and do independent research on the spa before going or signing any contract.

Know Your Body

It is important to know your body well; your medical history, which includes your mother, father and even grand parents if they suffered any major illnesses that your doctor should know about. There are many medical conditions that are hereditary and can interact with your metabolism and/or weight gain.

Do not follow a diet plan just because it worked for someone else well; remember we all have unique bodies and in order for you to achieve maximum fat loss a diet plan needs to be tailor made in order to fit your bodys requirements. You can draw out such a plan only with the help of your doctor or a dietician who will also have to be made aware of your previous and recent medical condition.

Eat Healthy And Exercise

The golden rule is to eat healthy and exercise regularly in order to obtain maximum fat loss. However, in this golden rule too there is a trick and that is, to know your body because certain healthy foods may act differently on certain people and the only way to reduce your weight is to understand your metabolism first.

Exercise is a sure way to maximum fat loss when done regularly and towards targeted areas. Even though most simple exercise such as power walking, jogging and cycling, which also has the maximum effects can be done by most people, it is recommended you consult a fitness instructor prior to beginning any exercise routine.

Helpful Tip

In order to obtain maximum fat loss you need to have determination and patience; do not expect overnight miracles because those diets that promise the same once stopped will make you all the weight back.

Consult a doctor and/or dietician before you start any diet and weight loss program in order to ensure to dont cause yourself any harm in the process. Once you have reached your ideal weight dont go back to old habits and give up the healthy routine you adopted, remember that you can put weight back on easier than you lost it so, stick to the healthy plan to obtain maximum fat loss and maintain your ideal weight.

Weight Loss Low Fat Cooking Can Taste Good

January 29th, 2009 No comments

By: John Ugoshowa
There used to be a saying that claimed no salt, no fat and no taste but that is not necessarily the truth these days. The popular thinking today is that trans fatty acids are the culprit and are responsible for all that is wrong in the weight world. Weight loss low fat cooking can taste good provided you use the right ingredients.

The right ingredients may include the ones called for in a recipe, just using less of them or possibly substituting them with other ingredients that can serve the same purpose. The United States Dairy Association recommends reducing the amount of salt, fat and sugar in our food. Many recipes for weight loss low fat cooking can be prepared using less of each or in some cases finding a suitable substitute that will not detract from the original taste.

For example, to reduce salt intake if the recipe calls for a half teaspoon of salt, use one quarter of a teaspoon or omit it all together. However, if a recipe uses yeast, you may have to leave it in, but the best way to reduce salt intake is to leave the saltshaker off the table. When using canned vegetables in weight loss low fat cooking, use the salt-free kind or rinse then when they come out of the can. Replace salt with spices or herbs as many seasonings contain a high level of sodium, which is listed on the label of ingredients.

Reduce Intake Of Oils And Sugars

Processed sugar takes longer to absorb in to body than raw sugar, reduce the amount of sugar in baking recipes by about one-third. To give the impression of sweetness cinnamon, vanilla or almond extract can be used. In many weight loss low fat cooking recipes, sucralose can be used instead of sugar and adding a half-teaspoon of baking soda for each cup used will maintain the sugary consistency.

To reduce oil you can substitute half the butter, oil or shortening with applesauce or prune puree. The baking time also have to be reduced by as much as one-fourth. When weight loss low fat cooking recipes call for using tuna, pick the ones packed in water or in lite oil and use low fat milk, low fat cream cheese and two egg whites for every egg called for in the recipe. These simple substitutions can help reduce the intake of these items without leaving the flavor on the counter.

The Secret Ingredient to Weight Loss

January 29th, 2009 No comments

By: Paul Muller
Dieting is not a fun thing to do, but the fact is, we have to watch what we eat if we want to experience weight loss. Dieting would be much more pleasant if there was a super drug or diet method that would result in speedy and permanent weight loss. While such a magic formula is not likely to ever be invented, those of us who want to lose weight keep holding out hope and looking for the secret ingredient to weight loss.

The truth is that the secret ingredient to weight loss is not a pill or a drug. Its a mindset. While many people might not want to accept that this is true, the secret ingredient to weight loss is patience. Because weight loss takes time. If you get frustrated after following a diet or exercise program for a few days and give up, the real culprit sabotaging your weight loss efforts is, quite simply, a lack of patience.

You didnt end up with extra weight overnight, and you arent going to experience significant or lasting weight loss overnight either. Successful weight loss requires commitment, and the willingness to stick to a healthy eating and exercise program that has the potential to help you achieve your long term weight loss goals.

If you find yourself jumping on the bathroom scales three times each day when you go on a diet to see if you have lost any weight yet, that is a good sign that you may not have the patience it takes to be successful in your weight loss efforts. Successful weight loss is all about mindset, and that mindset has to be one of patience.

No matter what hype you read about the latest fad diet or miracle weight loss drug, the fact remains that if you want to lose weight you have to increase your activity level and decrease your calorie consumption. The only weight loss that will last is that which comes off slowly; that which comes off the right way.

One reason that people often fail in their attempts to lose weight is because they tend to go to an extreme with diet and exercise. They think that they can work really hard for a little while to lose weight, and then go back to their usual lifestyle. The problem is that the usual lifestyle is what caused them to gain weight in the first place.

Instead of putting your energy in figuring out how to quickly drop weight that youre just going to gain back, you are much better served by approaching weight loss with a perspective of patience. Make healthy diet and exercise choices, and incorporate healthy eating into your everyday life. The pounds might not disappear overnight, but when they go away, they wont be likely to return.
