How to Restore Your Confidence with Acne Clinics

January 30th, 2009 2 comments

By: Darrin Reservitz
For many people the battle against acne is an easy one. They are able to make a quick trip to the pharmacy or local store and pick up Neutrogena multi vitamin acne treatment or any other over the counter acne treatment and be done with it. But dealing with acne is not that easy for some people. Those who struggle with severe acne tend to go up the ranks of treatment to prescription drugs then seek the help of acne clinics.

If you have tried everything from homemade acne treatments such as honey and apple masks, as well as most of the over the counter items that you’ve found on the store shelves, it may be time to call in a little extra help in your fight against the outbreaks. While your general doctor may be able to offer a prescription or two, often those don’t work well on severe acne cases, and you need to see professionals in this arena.

At acne clinics, acne is what the deal with. That’s it. That means they have seen more cases of severe acne than any general doctor would have, and also have tried more ways to treat acne, and found more successful ways, than general doctors.

For most people who visit acne clinics, they will be given a multi-faceted approach to beating their acne problem. This differs from the human intuition to try one thing at a time then move to the next when it doesn’t work.

Acne clinics usually battle acne from a number of different angles”

Medicines
Lasers
Restoration
Ongoing Skin Care

Medicines - The first approach acne clinics utilize is medicines. Instead of one medicine at a time, they often offer a 2-tiered approach. The first medication will deal with the topical problems of oily skin and killing the bacteria on the surface that are causing the acne outbreaks. The second medication is an internal attack on the acne causing agents inside your body.

Lasers - Advances in technology have become advances in treatment at today’s acne clinics. Using a laser on acne prone areas, the glands that are over-producing oil, encouraging acne outbreaks, are controlled. Additionally the heat of the laser can help in killing off acne-causing bacteria.

Restoration - Eventually you will be at the top of your uphill battle against acne, but probably still have scars and blemishes from those old outbreaks. This is where restoration comes in. Acne clinics are experienced in the methods to restore your skin to look clear again.

Ongoing Skin Care - After all the work you have put in to get your skin back to the way you remember it before acne struck, you want to be able to keep it that way. Acne clinics often offer education in ongoing skin care as well as facial therapies that you can receive at the facility to keep your skin acne-free in the years to come.

Unlike the old days when those with severe cases of acne had to live with the consequences, today’s acne clinics have a number of new tools at their disposal to help you gain the upper hand over your acne problem and remove it from your life.

Clear skin - it takes more than just good genes

January 30th, 2009 No comments

By: Luat Tran Van
Growing up, I always thought my grandmother had soft and beautiful skin. Well, I was right. Even well into her seventies, Grandma Susie still has amazingly soft and nearly wrinkle-free skin. The other day, I asked about her skin care regimen and how she kept looking so young. Her answer? She washes her face three times a day with warm water and a clean wash cloth. No soap, no chemicals at all!

But as we all know, most people are not as lucky as Grandma Susie when it comes to skin care. For a lot of us, it takes work and help to simply get clear skin. I will not even bring up what it takes to get soft and smooth skin or to keep back the signs of age.

For me, I am well into my thirties now with pretty decent skin (thanks to Grandma Susie and her genes). Although, every once in a while, acne rears its ugly “black-head” usually when I am stressed or eating poorly. But most of my acne problems start when I work out heavily. It seems the more I sweat, the more I break out.

I tend to break out more where my hairline meets my forehead, around my nose and under my chin. My break outs do not last long, but they are noticeable especially to me. It is really tough to be taken seriously as an adult when a teenage problem creeps up on my forehead. That is why I really try to take care of my face when I am working out, stressing or indulging in that greasy Double-Double from IN-N-OUT! And while soap and astringents were my cure of choice in my twenties, At this age (37) I look for options that are not so harsh on my skin, but will show positive results.

After a recent break out, a friend recommended that I give Obagi Skin Care a try. So, I logged onto Obagi Skin Care to learn more. Once their, I found a product that looked for me … Obagi CLENZIderm M.D.. There are two types of Obagi CLENZIderm. There’s Normal-to-Dry Skin and Normal-to-Oily Skin. Given my sometimes oily skin type, I chose the latter.

From the website, I learned that using CLENZIderm M.D. every day, people like myself can reduce the visible signs of acne in as little as two weeks and prevent new breakouts, allowing me to maintain clear and healthy skin.

Here is how it works over the two week period for Normal-to-Oily Skin

Step 1: Cleanse with Daily Care Foaming Cleanser

You will start by wetting your face with warm water, and squeezing out a dime-sized amount of Daily Care Foaming Cleanser into the palm of your hand. For 20 to 30 seconds, you will lather and gently your entire face before rinsing and pat drying your face. Before starting step 2, you will need to wait about 15 minutes before

Step 2: Pore Therapy

Following Step 1, grab a cotton ball or pad, moisten with the Pore Therapy and apply over your face. Be careful to avoid your eyes, nose and mouth. Once your done, let it dry … don’t rinse off. Make sure your entire face is dry before moving to step 3.

Step 3: Serum Gel

During Step 3, apply one pump of Serum Gel onto the cotton pad provided in your kit. Begin applying the gel evenly to entire face. Of course, keep it away from your eyes or in nose and mouth. Once you’re done, make sure to wash your hands … but don’t take any of the medication off your face. People with sensitive skin will feel some slight tingling or burning. That’s ok, it will minimize once you use it a few more times.

Although I don not have dry skin, I understand it’s a similar process for Steps 1 but things do change slightly in Step 2 and 3.

If you follow this regimen, daily … you’ll notice a big difference in the next two weeks. Although I have heard similar claims from other products, I found that Obagi made true on its promise. Now, thanks to Obagi Skin Care and genetics from Grandma Susie, I am pretty happy with my skin. Give it a try and you will see the transformation.

Do You Really Need a Night Cream?

January 30th, 2009 No comments

By: Debra
While our mother went to bed with freshly scrubbed faces, many of us now use night creams that come packed with everything from antioxidants and natural plant extracts to synthetic lipids and vitamins for radiant, youthful looking skin (read: remove wrinkles, fine lines, blemishes, sagging skin).

But do these creams really work, or are they just a conspiracy to get use buy another product with no proven benefits? After all, shouldnt your skin be allowed to recover after a days worth of skincare and make-up products?

Save Your Skin

According to experts, using a night cream can actually help your skin recover faster. The key is that night and day creams do different jobs.

Night creams stimulate cell renewal and restore elasticity, while day cream protect skin from the ageing, darkening and damaging effects of pollution and the suns UV rays. Both creams are formulated to keep skin moisturized, but night creams are more likely to be richer, with more anti-ageing and moisturizing ingredients.

Your Body Clock

Different biological processes happen when you are awake and when you are asleep. In the day, your body is bust using up its resources. But at night, your body seizes the chance to repair and restore itself. This applies to your skin as well.

Studies also show that your skin losses more water at night, and this drying effect is worse if you sleep with air-conditioning. That is why night creams tined to be more moisturizing to prevent dehydration and premature wrinkling.

Your skins ability to absorb the active ingredients peaks at around 1 am, when skin cell production more than doubles. So, in theory, applying a skincare treatment via a night cream allows your skin to absorb more of the active ingredients when it is most receptive.

If you are keen on anti-ageing or whitening skincare, night creams are worth trying as they contain a higher concentration of antioxidants and whitening ingredients than day cream. This is because there is no need to include UV protection since it is used at night, which means scientists can stuff in higher concentrations of anti-ageing or whitening ingredients.

What Works For You

The night cream you selected depends on your skin type. For instance, if you have oily skin that is prone to blackheads and blemishes, a hydrating but oil-free formula is a good choice.

On the other hand, dry skin tends to suffer from fine lines and wrinkles, so it will benefit from a richer night cream. Meanwhile, if you have sensitive skin, go for a hypoallergenic formula with ingredients that strengthen the skin and the tiny blood capillaries.

Look Younger! Simple Skin Care Tips For Your Face

January 30th, 2009 No comments

By: Anand R
Everybody wants to look younger, it doesn’t matter whether you are a man or a woman; and with the wide variety of skin care products on the market today, there is sure to be something to suit your needs. The first thing you need to do is keep your skin clean, wash your face twice a day, once in the morning and once more at night. Do not use harsh soaps, choose a mild aloe vera based soap and pat your skin dry, do not rub because rubbing can cause irritation which can lead to other skin problems. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to maintain a healthy diet and do some exercise because exercise not only stimulates the heart but all the other parts of the body as well.

When you are going outdoors you should always protect your face with a sun block because the sun is responsible for such symptoms as wrinkles, blotchy pigmentation, dryness, texture changes and uneven skin color and makes the skin look older. You might also consider wearing sunglasses as they will protect the eyelids from aging and will cause you to squint less, which is what causes crows feet because of exposure to the sun without eye protection.

One of the simplest ways to looking younger that does not require any sort of creams or lotions is to smile, as your face tends to conform to the expression that you carry most of the time. If you are continually scowling you are most likely to develop wrinkles between the eyes, furrows that come from a frowning facial expression and lines that seem to turn down at the corners of the mouth. You should try and have a smiling, relaxed, pleasant expression on your face so that your face can take on that happy expression so you won’t look so severe and it will definitely make you look younger.

There are many skin care products that are said to make the skin look younger such as Oil of Olay Age Defying Lotion, Retin-A and Alpha hydroxyl acids. Oil of Olay Age Defying Lotion can be bought at your local drug store or supermarkets and is one of the safest products that can be used without any side effects. Retin-A which is a rather popular age defying product is said to be very effective in the improvement of the appearance of the skin, but there are some side effects such as skin irritation and peeling and unlike Oil of Olay it cannot be bought without a medical prescription. Another favorite is Alpha hydroxyl acids, which has proven to have remarkable results in giving the skin a younger look and it does not have any side effects as the prescription products.

About Sagging Skin and Getting Rid of Wrinkles

January 29th, 2009 No comments

By: Sam
Wrinkles are the creased, thin and sagging skin that is especially noticeable on the neck, hands and face. Most wrinkles appear on the parts of the body where’re biggest sun exposure. These include the face, neck, the backs of the hands, and the tops of the forearms. There’s not a magic age when everyone suddenly gets wrinkles. Some people in their 20s have little wrinkles around their eyes from squinting or spending too much time in the sun. Skin wrinkles typically appear as a result of aging processes such as glycation or, temporarily, as the result of prolonged immersion in water. Wrinkling in skin is caused by habitual facial expressions, smoking, aging, sun damage, poor hydration and various other factors. The hair and nails also change with aging, including hair loss, graying of the hair, and brittleness of the nails. Dry skin with weak elastin and collagen will sag, wrinkle and shrivel. The skin around the eyelids, neck and jaw is especially thin, and therefore more naturally prone to aging.

Heat, wind, chemicals and the natural effects of aging cause a certain amount of wrinkling for everyone. Exposure to ultraviolet light, UVB or UVA, from sunlight accounts for 90% of the symptoms of premature skin aging. The dermis has an elastic quality thanks to fibers (called elastin) that keep the skin looking and feeling young. A protein in the dermis called collagen also plays a part in preventing wrinkles. Changes in the epidermis caused by the sun include thinning of the epidermis and the growth of skin lesions such as basal cell carcinomas, actinic keratoses, and squamous cell carcinomas. Sunlight damages collagen fibers and causes the accumulation of abnormal elastin. When this sun-induced elastin accumulates, enzymes (called metalloproteinases) are produced in large quantities. Habitual facial expressions cause the skin to wrinkle as it looses elasticity.

Products and treatments, including anti-aging creams, promising to remove, reduce or prevent age-related wrinkles are big business in many industrialized countries. Vitamin A Acid has the longest track record of success in treating aging skin and fine lines. Creams which contain tretinoin must be used on an ongoing basis. They may produce redness and peeling at first, but discomfort can usually be minimized by lowering the cream’s concentration or applying it less often until the skin gets used to it. Alpha-hydroxy acids are so-called “fruit acids” include glycolic and lactic acid. Antioxidants include preparations that contain the vitamins A, C, and E, as well as beta-carotene. Such creams may provide a certain amount of sun protection as well as mild improvement of fine wrinkles. Stay out of the sun as much as possible in order to minimize skin wrinkling.

Ways to get rid from wrinkles:

1. Use your fingers upwards from the lower of your eyes to the sides of the forehead; it relives the stress from the facial muscles.

2. Tap the face slowly and lightly with the fingertips to increase the blood circulation.

3. Stroke your chin in upward motions using both your thumbs. It helps reducing the double chin.

4. Breathing should be proper while doing any of the workouts no matter whether.

5. Blow off air from mouth as you are filling air in a balloon, it’s a helpful exercise in filling the flat cheeks.

6. Close your lips, take your mouth in the left and then in the right. Practice it 3-4 times.

7. There are some lightweight, battery operated equipments are available in the market to use for facial exercises.

8. Making a smiling face and then holding it for few second and releasing it are as good exercise for the cheeks.

20 Simple Wrinkle Erasers

January 29th, 2009 No comments

By: Arthor Pens
Aging of the skin is a natural process by which the collagen and elastin, that keep our skin looking firm and youthful, begin to decline, this results in wrinkles. Cell production and cell quality also diminish over time resulting in wrinkles. These factors unfortunately are out of our control, though diet and supplements can slow down the process, but it wont stop it.

The influences that are within our control are largely environmental such as pollution (eg; smoking) and sun damage. Here are 20 easy ways to reduce wrinkles and slow down the aging process.

1. Stop smoking (Its #1 for a reason)
2. Always wear sunscreen whether its cloudy or sunny and dont sunbake.
3. Hydrate your skin by drinking about 8 glasses of water a day.
4. Use skin care products that contain antioxidants and AHA’s.
5. Moisturize the skin on your face twice daily.
6. Reduce stress. (Try reading, exercising, meditating) 15 minutes a day is a good start.
7. Reduce alcohol consumption. Over indulging can put enormous strain on your system and will accelerate wrinkles forming.
8. Eat healthily by incorporating plenty of fruits and vegetables in your daily diet.
9. Sleep at least 8 hours every night.
10. Eat fish three times a week. Great for the skin and general health.
11. Check with your doctor about taking supplements, your diet may be lacking some of the important ones.
12. Use an eye cream for the delicate skin around the eyes nightly.
13. Facial scrubs remove the build up of dead cells that can increase the appearance of wrinkles, try this weekly.
14. Use natural skin care products that will nourish your skin and give it lots of vitamins and minerals to help it stay fresh and healthy.
15. Jojoba oil resembles the skins natural oils. Dab this around the eyes to keep wrinkles at bay.
16. Take vitamin C supplements and use products that contain vitamin C, it will help boost your collagen.
17. Start a good skin care routine in your 20s. Prevention is easier than the cure.
18. Honey is known worldwide for its beneficial abilities. Use a honey mask weekly. Simply apply the honey to your face and neck and leave for 30 minutes then rinse off. This mask will “feed” your skin with nutrients.
19. Aloe Vera and Avocado oil both have the ability to prevent the skin from drying out; they are both used to improve the skins elasticity.
20. A soothing way to help achieve a wrinkle-free face is to lie on your back with your knees elevated by placing a pillow or cushion beneath them.

Try this when you are watching TV or reading.

How to Prevent Acne from Appearing

January 29th, 2009 No comments

By: IC
Acne is an affection that occurs in most of the teenagers and should be properly treated so that the affected person could regain its confidence back and live normally. In order to avoid Acne from spreading or to prevent it from reappearing teenagers should follow some tips.

First of all those who have problems with Acne should be careful what face cleanser they use. It is best to avoid alcohol lotions or any soap based cleansers that might dry your skin too much. Most of the teenagers think that if they use a lotion that dries their skin the pimples will not appear any more. This is a solution only for the moment as the sebaceous glands in the skin will be stimulated by the dryness on the skin and will produce more and more sebum that will end up clogging pores again. Instead of using products that dry your skin try using gentle oil free and soap free cleansers. Most of all are found as face washing gels or creams.

In winter it is perfectly normal to use a cream for the face skin, but avoid using a fat cream, just use a cold cream. Nowadays the cosmetic industry has perfected itself and can offer care products for Acne skin. You can find there creams that will protect you skin against wind, rain and cold but it will also protect is against Acne.

Sun is good for the Acne skin but not between 10 am and 4 pm. Take a sun bath in the morning for half an hour or before sunset. The sun is not just going to cover up the spots Acne has given you but it will also heal your skin faster.

When buying a sun protection cream read what it is written on the label of the product. If it contains PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) then do not buy it as it might clog up your pores and make Acne worse.

Avoid sweating too much or spending too much time in a wet environment as skin problems might get worse and Acne can appear.

Also, alimentary supplements that contain iodine should be moderately taken as they might cause pimples. There are some supplements you can use to prevent Acne from coming back: vitamin A supplements. You can find vitamin A in carrots, eggs, spinach and squash butternut.

If a pimple has appeared on the face apply tea tree oil on it once or twice a day with a cotton wool. This way you will prevent it from spreading to other skin areas and you will control its healing.

Avoid the contact of your hair with the face, especially if you have an oily hair. Also keep your hand away from the face as you can bring germs to it and then pimples will form. If you like using hair gel or mousse and you have little pimples on the forehead do not use the hair products for a few weeks and see if there is any change in the aspect on your face skin.

Stop Aging With Anti-Oxidants

January 29th, 2009 No comments

By: cdmohatta
None of us wants to age. Even if that is inevitable, we all want to look young. That is also right because youth has a beauty that is absent in age. How anti oxidants can help you in fighting aged looks? Let us find out.

Anti-oxidants: what are they- our body is constantly attacked by pollution, sunrays and other damaging factors. While saving the body, we produce free radicals. They are oxygen molecules without an electron. These free radicals search around the body for a free electron. They take it from a healthy cell and kill it. That is very damaging to body and accelerates aging. Anti oxidants give an electron to these free radicals and stop them from damaging healthy cells. That is how they protect us from aging.

Anti Oxidants: how to use them. Most of the Vitamins such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E are anti oxidants. You get them from food. Beta-carotene that is a type of Vitamin a is an excellent anti oxidant. You get it from foods such as carrots. You can also take supplements of these Vitamins under a doctor’s advice. Some Vitamins are dangerous in higher dose. Selenium is another anti oxidant. Copper peptide is one more. Some of these anti oxidants are formulated in topical applications and can be used to maintain the young look of the skin. Many Vitamin formulations are available in the market to fight aging looks by application. Choose one carefully that suits your skin type. Speak to your doctor and fight the aging looks. Anti oxidants are our friends.
