Wrinkle creams have clearly become an increasingly popular niche market for both men and women since 2007. As we start a new year, the early year-end sales reports have shown a huge increase in holiday wrinkle cream sales. While anti aging manufacturers are certainly happy, we need to ask what type of side effects we may cause inadvertently with our actions.

As was previously the case in the diet pill niche, wrinkle creams purchases are rising almost daily and are becoming a normal component in most womens daily skin care routine. But unlike weight loss, aging can not be stopped. While we may be able to restrain some of the signs of aging, scientists can not stop the earths rotation keeping you the same age for the rest of your life. Does this inevitability make the use of anti aging products much more concerning or is it simply the cause of all this popularity.

The issue being raised by many doctors is that over time this desire to stop the aging process will increase exponentially, becoming a much larger part of the female and male unconscious. Just as was found with diet pills, people begin to identify themselves with their weight, not who they are. There is alarming concern with anti aging products however. Considering the fact that the aging process is irreversible, are we setting ourselves up for a major disappointment.

The emotional damage that overweight people have demonstrated as a result of their view of who they are has become rather well documented. Whether being ridiculed from outsiders, or simply crying when they look into the mirror, the damage caused is quite clear. Most are not able to see who they are, feel confident in their abilities, simply because of how much they weigh. What these over weight individuals have to offer society becomes second to their obesity. It is very upsetting to hear stories of, and in recent years some of the success stories have even become popular a TV series.

While the aging process is quite different today then weight problem we have discussed, its popularity is growing just as the diet pill and health kick of the 80s. As these creams become more and more effective, the people using them begin to identify themselves as youthful, and therefore growing old becomes taboo. It is the latter aspect of human behavior that has many doctors concerned. We can not prevent growing old, only slow the symptoms. Only time will tell whether this inevitability will create major emotional damage or be the reason we avoid it all together.

The other argument on anti wrinkle creams, is simple. All people understand that they are growing old and that carries its own set of concerns already. By utilizing wrinkle creams many are able to stave off the deeper wrinkles and actually increase their confidence, not hurt it. Wrinkles are different than weight, many specialists insist, it is not as outwardly visible to outsiders. While our wrinkles are very noticeable to us, who look in the mirror all day, strangers on the street have a much harder time noticing them. In addition, because aging is an expected aspect of everyones life, people are not as cruel about it. If you could even notice someones wrinkles from across the street, the chances that you would discuss it with friends after words is highly unlikely.

While the growth and popularity of wrinkle creams does deeply resemble that of the weight loss rage, there are many unique components that make it substancially different. Arguments can be made that this will both increase self confidence and ultimately hurt it in the long run. The truth is that only time will tell. We can neither prove or disprove either argument until it has run its course. Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope that the recent breakthroughs of science in the anti aging market is for the good of society, not not the worst of society.
